Hello everyone,
I am currently in the process of updating my home automation system and switching to HA. I have several ESP8266 in use, which have firmware from 2018. Can I simply update them via OTA or is that too big a leap?
If so, is the following update file the right one?
ESP_Easy_mega_20241222_normal_ESP8266_1M.bin
Enclosed you will find a screenshot of my existing ESP.
ESP_Easy_mega-20180804_normal_ESP8266_1024.bin
Sorry, but I haven't done anything to the device for 6 years and I'm not that fit anymore.
Many thanks for your help

Re: OTA-Update to new Version
You have selected the correct file for the upgrade, but most likely there isn't enough free space in the flash to upgrade via OTA. The only alternative is to connect the board via an USB-serial adapter to a computer, en upgrade using either the Web flasher at https://td-er.nl/ESPEasy or download the Espressif flash download tool (it's included in the downloads from https://github.com/letscontrolit/ESPEasy/releases) or you can download it from the Espressif site yourself: https://www.espressif.com/en/support/do ... ther-tools
If you do _not_ erase the flash, all configuration should be preserved, and migrated/converted where needed.
NB: The 2-step upgrade procedure (and binaries) haven't been updated for a long, long time, and are no longer usable.

Re: OTA-Update to new Version
Hm, I now see that the real flash size on your ESP is 4MB and you have 1 1MB build installed, but we don't offer an upgrade path from a 1MB build to a 4MB build.
There are 2 options, after which you can use OTA for updates:
1) Backup the configuration to you local computer, install a 4M1M build on your ESP, connect to WiFi, and restore your config.dat backup (needs to be renamed to config.dat before restoring)
2) Just overwrite the ESP with a 4M1M build, and reconfigure from cratch, (without a restore)
