publishing switch state to the broker periodically - possible?

Like in the topic - Is it possible to make Sensor Delay work for a switch as well? I'm using build r85 - when I select "Send data" checkbox on a switch configuration page it sends state to the broker only once after gpio change, but it would be better if it would send it's state periodically. At the moment when the controller like Openhab goes down for some reason it won't know the current state of the switch when it comes back online. After this (simple I think) change it would update the state of a switch.
