ESP8266 Deep Sleep never wakes up - Domoticz Last Seen never changes

I'm experimenting with using deep sleep as my weather station batteries only last about 3 days. I've selected Sleep enabled, Sleep delay of 60 seconds and tried variants with and without Sleep on connection failure, and also set Message Delay (Tools) to xero. The device never seems to then communicate with Domoticz thereafter. I can wake the device by repowering it up and using the 30 secs to change the settings back to no deep sleep.

Have I missed something? Is it a problem with the ESP device or comms with Domoticz? Any advice appreciated.

Have you connected gpio-16 to the rst pin? Without that it will not wake up from deep sleep.
