Just tried it and the Zanzito app let you publish notifications to your phone(s) using MQTT.

Just publish to

zanzito/<device name >/notification
Other features is to send sms from phone using MQTT. Have notifications TTS (talking voice). Report battery and location of the phone etc. etc.
