ESP Easy and VPN client?

Hey!

After 3 attempts with different INA219 current sensors I finally got one that actually worked (seems quite a bit of the sensors I buy from Ali/eBay arrives faulty...).

I'd like to monitor the voltage in my boat with something that draws as little current as possible. I have found a way to root my android phone and via the internet sharing feature let an ESP Easy device connect to my phone and also be connected to my home VPN. But this requires a phone that is constantly on in my boat and this draws more power. In my harbour we have free wifi and I'm looking for some way to have my ESp Easy device be connected via this and to my home VPN to report voltage like once every hour or so.

Can anybody see any solution for this (other than port forwarding which would be my last resort)? I guess a VPN client on such a low spec device isn't possible but does anyone have any other suggestions for me?

To summarize: I'd like to measure my boats voltage and have the value reported to my server. Free wifi is available and also enough power to run an ESP Easy device for months.

I would go for a mqtt server and connect to it instead of VPN.

Just for test i got a simple portable server. You find it on my blog. Not to be used permanently since it's no security implemented.

Maybe we could add an option to only allow web interface through some MQTT command?
