OTA upgrade on ESP-01 black editions

#1 Post by Martinus » 30 Jul 2016, 16:05

As there were some doubts on upgrading the black ESP-01 version modules though OTA, i decided to run an extra test to verify this process from R78 to current R108:

Steps taken to verify OTA upgrade from R78 to R108 on a black ESP-01 module:

1) Took a brand new ESP-01 black with the original ai-thinker firmware still loaded.
2) Used the flash.cmd tool to upload ESPEasy_R78_1024.bin using the serial port.
3) Configured wifi ssid and key and IP address through serial port, save, reboot, connection is ok.
4) Verified webgui access, ok
5) Using the ESP webgui to upload ESPEasy_R108_1024.bin file
6) Verified webgui, runs fine using R108.

Serial log during this upgrade process:

Thanks Martinus to take time for my problem.
When I started with the ESP-01 I followed the Arduino IDE Tutorial step by step, and here I made a big mistake. Give it a reason, age, reading with closed eyes or something like that :D

I filled all my ESP's with 512K (64K Spiffs) and then with OTA I selected the 1024.bin file.
On this moment i can't try the solution of Martinus, I don't have new ESP's available.
